Propyl acetate is a slow-drying agent and also presents certain hazards. Many people have asked about emergency handling procedures for propyl acetate.
I. Emergency Response for Spills
Quickly evacuate personnel from the spill-contaminated area to a safe area and isolate it, strictly restricting entry and exit. Cut off the ignition source. Emergency responders are advised to wear self-contained positive-pressure respirators and fire-protective clothing. Try to stop the source of the leak and prevent it from entering restricted spaces such as sewers or drainage ditches. Small spills: Absorb with activated carbon or other inert materials. Alternatively, wash with plenty of water and dilute the wash water before releasing it into the wastewater system. Large spills: Construct a dike or dig a pit to contain the spill; cover with foam to reduce vapor hazards. Transfer to a tank truck or dedicated collector using an explosion-proof pump for recovery or transport to a waste disposal site for treatment.
Waste disposal method: Incineration.
II. Protective Measures
Respiratory protection: When possible contact with vapors may occur, wear a self-absorbing filter respirator (half-mask). In emergency rescue or evacuation, it is recommended to wear an air respirator.
Eye protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.
Body protection: Wear anti-static work clothes.
Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves.
Other: Smoking is strictly prohibited in the work area. Shower and change clothes after work. Pay attention to personal hygiene.
III. First Aid Measures
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly wash skin with soap and water. Seek medical attention.
Eye contact: Lift the eyelids and rinse with running water or saline. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly remove from the scene to fresh air. Keep the airway open. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately begin artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water, induce vomiting, and seek medical attention.
Firefighting methods: Extinguishing agents: Alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand. Water is ineffective for extinguishing the fire, but it can be used to keep containers in the fire area cool.
